Beard Balm

In the annals of grooming history, one name stands out like a finely waxed moustache on a winter’s day: Colonel Angus. It was the late 1880s, and beard were…well, wild and unruly. Col. Angus, a man of great taste and even greater facial hair, realized that his own magnificent beard, while awe-inspiring, was prone to mischief.

One fateful afternoon, after a particularly windy horse ride left his beard looking more like a bird’s nest than the majestic mane it was meant to be, Col. Angus had an epiphany. Early records indicate that the Colonel crafted the very first beard balm using a secret blend of beeswax, bear fat, a hint of sassafras, a shot of moonshine (for himself) and a dash of his secret ingredient (which may or may not have been bald eagle tears). Being the animal advocate he was, he never actually killed any bears for their fat or made bald eagles cry. The fat was given voluntarily as a favor for rescuing a litter of grizzly cubs one fateful day on his adventures in the Yukon. Apparently word travels far and wide in the animal kingdom. And he would often bring the eagles to tears with his hilarious jokes.

Word of Col. Angus’s magical beard potion spread like wildfire across the land. By the time the first snow fell, men from every corner of the country were slicking their beards with the Colonel’s creation, tipping their hats to the man who made bearded life a little bit smoother. Today, though the ingredients and production methods may have changed, the spirit of Col. Angus’ original recipe lives on in every tin of beard balm—offering both style and substance, with just a hint of old-world swagger.
